The PHS Yearbook committee is hoping to incorporate some old pictures and stories from alumni about the school. While they do have access to old yearbooks, scanning them does not always result in great quality photos. If anyone has pictures (or can suggest a source for them) please contact Jennifer Van Zandt. Also if you have any good stories from "back in the day" as the kids like to say, please let her know.

An unexpected downpour forced Palmyra High School to move its commencement ceremony indoors, but the weather could not curb the enthusiasm of those in attendance at last night’s graduation.

After a quick dash from the football stadium to the school’s gym, the 85 wet graduating seniors were greeted with a roaring ovation by family and friends.

“Sorry about the weather, but we’re going to make the best of this,” Palmyra High School principal Christine Vespe told the crowd after they assembled in the gym due to the passing shower...

Palmyra High School was built in 1909, which means that 2009 is our 100th Anniversary!

Planning groups are meeting and have already started on the following activities for 2009:  January kickoff at a boys and girls basketball game, February Hall of Fame celebration, Palmyra Day in May, Yearbook and Commencement activities in June, July 4th parade (Riverton), football game, dinner, dance, tours and breakfast in October, and finally a winter alumni concert (choir and band) in December.

High school classes began shortly after the completion of the Spring Garden Street School in 1895; this building is on the National Register of Historic Places. With increased enrollment, the school was moved to a former girls school, Berkeley Hall, in 1907, and to its own building in 1909. A large addition was completed in 1922. The 1909 structure was destroyed by fire in 1957, and after a vote that narrowly defeated establishing a regional high school, additions were made to the building in 1958 and 1961.

In 1907 the Red Devils, Palmyra's football team, began its rivalry with Bulington City.  This is the oldest school rivalry in Burlington County.  Now we are known as the Palmyra Panthers, but the rivalry still exists as does Palmyra High School's fierce determination and drive to achieve both Scholastic and Athletic excellence.
